Happy Birthday PWG!

4th birthday 2015

We delight in the beauty of the butterfly, but rarely admit the changes it has gone through to achieve that beauty.— Maya Angelou

It’s our 4 year birthday today, and we are celebrating here at PWG! We wanted to take a moment to thank all of you for your continued support and good wishes.  While change is inevitable in life, our mission has not changed from the day we opened:

Our goal is to create a unique pediatric experience for both parents & their children.

We fully intend to continue to grow and evolve to meet the needs of our patients, families and community. Here’s to many more celebrations!

Measles update

vaccines save livesFebruary 2015

It is official, there is a measles outbreak in the US, and as of February 2 there are 102 cases in 14 states, most stemming from the Disneyland exposure in mid-December.  We have also been notified by the health department that there are measles cases in both San Mateo and Santa Clara Counties. We’ve been getting lots of calls from parents asking about what they should do to protect their child.

We have elected to follow the CDC and AAP guidelines:

we are recommending the first MMR at 12 months [if your child hasn’t had this please call for an immunization appointment, and you need to wait one month after the chicken pox vaccine]
we are NOT recommending accelerating the 2nd MMR booster at this time [we are giving it at the current recommended 4-6 year range]
we are not routinely recommending MMR vaccine for infants 6-12 months unless travelling to measles endemic countries per CDC/WHO guidelines.

The American Academy of Pediatrics, the CDC, and even President Obama have urged parents to get their child vaccinated.  At PWG we believe that vaccines are safe and important for the health and welfare of your child, your family and our community. It is our policy that patients in our practice must be vaccinated.

Why did the cases spread so fast?  This two minute video does an excellent job demonstrating how quickly a disease can spread.

PWG transitions…

Joshua Parker MD“If we don’t change we don’t grow. If we don’t grow we aren’t really living.”  — Gail Sheehy

Happy New Year all!  2015 is bringing some changes with it, and we wanted to take a moment to fill you in on what’s coming up.

Dr. Laura Chiang has announced her departure from PWG effective January 18, 2015.  Dr. Laura has been with PWG since it began in 2011, and we all wish her continued success in her new practice at Menlo Medical Clinic.

We are also very excited to welcome Dr. Josh Parker to the PWG team as of January 19, 2015. Dr. Parker has been practicing locally since 2007 after finishing residency at Stanford University. He went to medical school at SUNY-Upstate in New York after getting a B.A. in biology from Brown University.

Dr. Parker brings a unique blend of experience in both neonatology as well as general pediatrics.  Some of you may have met him at Sequoia Hospital where he is part of the LPCH team of neonatologists that attend high risk deliveries and take care of newborns in the hospital. He has also worked at Foster City Pediatrics and PAMF Fremont prior to joining PWG.

We are pleased to be able to offer you different options for care:

1) You may continue to receive exceptional personalized medical care here at PWG by transferring your child’s care to another physician within our group.   Both Dr. Sue and Dr. Parker  are accepting new patients, all you need to do is let us know via phone at 650.216.7794, fax at 650.216.7796 or email at inquiry@pwgrwc.com who you would like us to assign as your child’s pediatrician.

2) You may transfer your child’s care to either Dr. Laura Chiang or another pediatrician. We will need a signed transfer of records form on file, and there may be a small fee for processing records.

As always we are here to help you in this process. Taking care of your child is our privilege, and we wish you and your family a very happy and healthy 2015!
