We wanted to take a moment to update you on what has been happening at PWG with our transition to APEX/Epic. First off thank you all for being patient with us as we navigate this new medical software…some things are easier for us, but it will take time for all of us to build new “muscle memory” and become efficient with this system. It will also take time for the UCSF APEX team to work out system kinks, and build out crucial functions we used to have.
Our number one goal in this process is to continue to deliver the same level of excellent pediatric care that you have come to associate with PWG . We want to be transparent with this process, so here is this week’s update:
- for patients being seen in the office we are making the following things a priority: getting patients registered efficiently, having patients seen by a physician in a timely manner, and making sure the post-visit procedures [such as shots or medications] are delivered both safely and efficiently.
- we are continuing to process referrals and refill requests, please remember we can no longer send electronic prescriptions for controlled substances such as Ritalin.
- we are trying to find the best way to route phone messages, our old system had functionalities that made certain things easier for us, we have not found our rhythm yet with the new system. As you know our old patient portal has been shut down, and the new patient portal is not up and running yet for PWG.
- we know many of you have experienced longer hold times, and we want to apologize for that. We take pride in being a responsive office and this is not ideal for anyone.
- We hold multiple workflow sessions daily, each time refining our process a little bit further. It is our goal to try and resolve these issues as quickly as we can.
- we are NOT scheduling drop in flu clinics this week, we will post those dates as soon as we can.
Change is hard, but change is good. And ultimately we believe the changes we are going though will help us deliver the best patient care we can. Thank you all for your patience and understanding with us during this transition!
